Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is proprioceptive training?

Proprioceptive training is a technique that involves stimulating the parts of the nervous system responsible for joint position awareness and muscle coordination. The aim of proprioceptive training is to promote improved body control for increased movement and mobility. This therapy often includes exercises, stretches and activities that use weights, balance boards and specialised equipment designed to target specific areas. Through this training, individuals can develop stronger proprioception abilities which can lead to greater motor skill capacity, improved posture and balance, relief from chronic pain or injury, as well as enhanced overall physical performance.

  • What is soft tissue therapy?

Soft tissue therapy is a type of bodywork that focuses on relieving muscle tension and increasing range of motion. It combines therapeutic massage techniques with specialised stretching to treat pain, injuries and postural imbalances. Soft tissue therapy can help individuals enhance their wellness, reduce tension in their muscles and improve their overall mobility. By restoring balance across the muscular system through soft tissue work, patients may be able to identify dysfunctional patterns before they become chronic issues.

  • What is an ACL tear?

An ACL tear is a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament, which is located in the knee joint. This injury is most commonly seen in athletes that participate in sports which involve sudden changes in direction, such as soccer and basketball. The symptoms of an ACL tear are pain, a popping sensation at the time of the injury and swelling within 24 hours. Moreover, mobility can be heavily impacted by an ACL tear; walking may become difficult due to instability both laterally and vertically. Fortunately, this injury can be fixed through surgery and rehabilitation exercises.

  • What is gait analysis?

Gait analysis is an important tool for identifying and treating neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders. It's a type of physical therapy that identifies abnormalities in a person's ability to move. A gait analysis assesses walking pattern and any issues with stride length, foot placement, speed and symmetry. To evaluate a person’s gait, a physiotherapist collects data from standardised tests to generate a comprehensive report which can pinpoint problematic movements as well as help create a corrective plan.
